OUR CREATION STORY

IN THE BEGINNING …

Spring 1992 -Menlo-Atherton High School (Atherton, Ca)

  • Prince Ma'atu (Father of HSH Prince Tungi) seeks out Senita Uhilamoelangi to organize a local community fundraiser.

  • Meanwhile, Appollonia Grey partners with Mr. Cardoza and Ms. Bullock to initiate the first Pacific Islander after-school tutoring program. This initiative would soon grow into Pacific Islander Outreach.

  • Spring 1993 - Penieli Church (East Palo Alto, Ca)

    • Senita Uhilamoelangi invites Prince Ma'atu to Penieli Church fundraising event (Faifekau Uate Ngahe)

  • Spring 1994 - 1628 Michigan Street (East Palo Alto, Ca)

    • HRH Princess Mafile’o Pilolevu Tuita (Father's Sister of HSH Prince Tungi) attends Pacific Islander Outreach event, organized by Appollonia Grey, Senita Uhilamoelangi and other custodians of culture and grassroots activists.

      • This event would be memorialized in Dreams of A City Documentary, directed by Michael Levin.

  • July 23, 1997

    • Chief Samoan Counsel invites King Tupou IV (Grandfather of HSH Prince Tungi) to Stanford University Conference for Public Health where he would install the name 'Anamatangi to Senita Uhilamoelangi and his group of performing arts-grassroots organizers. This effort was in-collaboration with the Menlo Atherton U-Turn program, Saint Francis of Assisi Lataki youth, Talking Chief Tui'ono, and the 'Uhilamoelangi family; Senita and Appollonia 'Uhilamoelangi and their four children.

      • 'Anamatangi would eventually absorb Pacific Islander Outreach and become an official 501c3 nonprofit to serve communities through performance arts-grassroots organizing.

Anamatangi Polynesian Voices

‘Anamatangi Polynesian Voices (‘APV) is a California grassroots organization advancing systems-impacted communities through heritage preservation and civic engagement. Formerly known as Pacific Islander Outreach, ‘APV was founded by Appollonia ‘MamaDee’ Grey Uhilamoelangi and Senita Uhilamoelangi in July 1997. Since then, ‘APV primarily serves families in East Palo Alto, the Peninsula Valley, and the wider San Mateo County.
